A Second Degree Ankle Sprain is a soft tissue injury which is the damage of muscles, ligaments and tendons throughout the body and in this case, the ligaments in the ankle. There is increased pain and swelling associated with a second degree ankle sprain, and a moderate loss of stability at the ankle joint. A sprained ankle is a form of an indirect injury as the damage of the ligaments in the ankle are due to external forces.
